Automotive AC Technician Or Air-Conditioning Mechanic

Key Responsibilities:

1. AC System Diagnosis & Repair:

• Inspect and test vehicle air conditioning systems to identify issues such as leaks, weak cooling, or component failures.
• Use tools such as manifold gauges, leak detectors, and electronic diagnostic equipment to assess system performance.
• Repair or replace defective components such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, filters, blower motors, expansion valves, and refrigerant lines.

2. Servicing and Maintenance:

• Perform routine servicing of AC systems, including checking and topping up refrigerant levels (R134a, R1234yf, or equivalent gases).
• Clean or replace cabin air filters and evaporator coils.
• Ensure proper belt tension and pulley alignment for AC compressors.
• Lubricate moving parts within the air-conditioning system as required.

3. Refrigerant Handling:

• Recover, evacuate, and recharge refrigerants safely using automated AC recovery machines.
• Handle refrigerants in compliance with environmental and safety regulations (e.g., RTO, EPA, or local authority guidelines).
• Maintain proper records of refrigerant use and recovery to meet legal and workshop policies.

4. System Testing & Quality Control:

• Conduct performance tests to verify effective cooling, proper airflow, and accurate thermostat control.
• Check electrical wiring and connections related to the HVAC control system, including switches, sensors, and relays.
• Ensure the AC system meets manufacturer specifications and customer expectations before releasing the vehicle.

5. Documentation & Reporting:

• Maintain accurate job cards, service reports, and records of parts used.
• Communicate clearly with supervisors or service advisors regarding required repairs, estimated costs, and completion timelines.
• Assist in preparing cost estimates and explaining AC-related issues to customers when needed.

6. Workshop Safety & Equipment Maintenance:

• Follow all safety procedures and use PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) while working with pressurized gases and electrical systems.
• Keep work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
• Maintain tools and AC equipment in good working condition; report any faults or tool shortages.
