Technician - Fitter Welder

Job Summary:

A Technician Fitter/Welder is responsible for the assembly, installation, fabrication, and repair of metal components and structures using welding, cutting, and fitting techniques. This role plays a critical part in the fabrication and maintenance of machinery, tools, piping systems, structural frameworks, and various equipment. The ideal candidate should have strong technical skills, hands-on experience in welding and fitting operations, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and safety guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Fitting and Assembly Work:

• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and job orders for fitting assignments.
• Mark, cut, drill, and shape metal components using hand tools, grinders, drills, and machines.
• Fit mechanical parts and sub-assemblies into structural frameworks or machine housings with high precision.
• Align and secure components using clamps, bolts, and fasteners before welding.

2. Welding Operations:

• Perform welding tasks using appropriate techniques such as MIG, TIG, ARC, or gas welding , depending on material type and project requirements.
• Join metal parts using manual and semi-automatic welding tools, ensuring strong, defect-free joints.
• Perform spot welding, seam welding, and surface welding as per specifications.

3. Maintenance and Repair:

• Repair worn, damaged, or broken parts through re-fabrication or welding processes.
• Perform preventive maintenance on fabrication tools and welding equipment to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Assist with installation and alignment of piping systems, steel structures, machine components, etc.

4. Quality and Safety Compliance:

• Inspect welds and fitted parts for accuracy, alignment, and defects using measuring instruments like calipers, gauges, or ultrasonic testers.
• Ensure all work complies with company standards and safety guidelines related to welding and metal fabrication.
• Wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and adhere to fire and hazardous materials safety procedures.

5. Documentation and Reporting:

• Maintain daily records of completed work, materials used, and issues encountered.
• Report any faults, material shortages, or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
• Coordinate with other technicians, engineers, or supervisors on job priorities.
