Job Description
Job SummaryWe are seeking a proactive and technically sound Business Development Engineer with expertise in high-voltage substations (66/132/220 KV). The role involves driving tendering processes, managing inquiries, and expanding the company s footprint across private entities, government departments, and PSUs. The incumbent will handle both technical and commercial aspects of business development, ensuring successful participation in tendering procedures, vendor registration, and empanelment as an approved supplier. This position requires a blend of technical knowledge, commercial acumen, and relationship-building skills to secure turnkey projects and long-term partnerships.Key Responsibilities Business Opportunity Development :- Identify, evaluate, and generate leads for turnkey substation projects through contacts, tenders, inquiries, and government procurement channels.- Conduct market intelligence and competitor analysis to anticipate industry trends and opportunities.Tendering & Bid Management :- Lead tendering activities including bid preparation, submission, technical clarifications, and post-submission follow-ups.- Ensure cost estimation, risk analysis, and compliance with tender specifications.- Coordinate with technical, finance, and legal teams to deliver error-free tender documents. Vendor Registration & Empanelment : - Manage vendor registration processes with government departments, PSUs, and private clients.- Ensure timely renewal and compliance with empanelment requirements.Client & Stakeholder Engagement :- Build and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers, consultants, EPC contractors, and procurement officials.- Represent the company at business meetings, industry forums, exhibitions, and trade shows. Commercial Negotiations & Contracting :- Negotiate terms and conditions with prospects to secure favorable contracts.- Support contract finalization and handover to execution teams. Compliance & Governance :- Stay updated on procurement policies, tendering procedures, and statutory regulations.- Ensure adherence to ethical business practices, safety standards, and corporate governance.Performance Monitoring :- Track tender success ratio, lead conversion rate, and vendor empanelment progress.- Provide regular MIS reports and dashboards to management.Qualifications & Experience- Education: B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Mandatory).- Experience: 3-5 years in business development, tendering, vendor registration, and sales in 132/220 KV substations.- Technical Exposure: - Knowledge of substation design, equipment (GIS/AIS), transformers, switchgear, and protection systems.- Familiarity with EPC contracts, project execution cycles, and utility requirements.Skills & Competencies :- Strong understanding of government tendering procedures, procurement policies, and e-tendering platforms.- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills for engaging with senior management and government officials.- Proficiency in bid preparation, contract management, and regulatory compliance.- Analytical mindset with problem-solving skills to navigate complex tendering processes.- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.- Proficiency in MS Office, ERP systems, and digital procurement portals.Preferred Attributes :- Prior experience in business development for substations or power transmission projects.- Exposure to government procurement portals, e-tendering platforms, and digital bid submissions.- Experience in liaising with regulatory agencies, consultants, and government procurement officers.- Strong networking skills with industry professionals and consultants.- Ability to work under pressure and deliver results within tight deadlines.
